Legendary custom car painter, Efrain "Bugs" Gonzales, cruised onto the lowrider scene in 1987, as a young, up and coming painter. Through many years of hard work and intense dedication to his craft, Bugs has become a staple in the lowrider community. Thousands of custom rides, lowriders, skate decks, semis, and motorcycles have been in the crosshairs of his paints guns and brushes.
Bugs Lowrider Y Skate (BLYS) is an accumulation of Bugs’ incredible work, as well as his love and dedication to the culture and arts. BLYS blends together the two incredible worlds of skateboards and lowriders. Both which have been powerfully influenced by Chicano culture.
BLYS is about bringing people, communities, and worlds together. Celebrating the unique skills and gift in each of us! Focusing not just on the destination, but also on the journey. So, start your engines and grab your decks - And, always ride low and live free!
Efrain "Bugs" Gonzales was born and raised by his mother in Mesa, Arizona. His mother and family were migrant workers who travelled through Arizona, California, and Idaho working in agriculture. Bugs would spend long car rides starring out the window mesmerized by the passing semis with their hand lettering, pinstriping, and dazzling gold and silver leaf. His love for painting started young! Bugs even attempted to paint his first skate deck at twelve years old.
It was in high school that Bugs met his very first lowrider, which changed his entire world. He worked extremely hard thereafter to buy his first lowrider, a 1964 Chevrolet Impala, and has been on the scene ever since.
Bugs has mentored and worked with many paint masters, legends, and a variety of artist over his long career. His work has adorned 1000s of rides and has been featured on TV shows, and magazines. He has done work for large corporations, sport organizations, and high profile clients.
